Deleuze & Guattari wrote this text on Kafka and minor literature as part of their project on late capitalism that they had developed in their previous book, "L'Anti-Œdipe – Capitalisme et schizophrénie" (Paris: Éditions de Minuit, 1972), and will continue in their book after Kafka, "Mille Plateaux – Capitalisme et schizophrénie 2" (Paris: Éditions de Minuit, 1980).
