Alexander Pena

Alexander Pena received his B.A. in History and English from Williams College, and is currently a fifth-year student and doctoral candidate in the Medieval Studies program at Yale University. His research interests center broadly on Mediterranean inter-religious cultural and intellectual history, translation studies, memory studies, and medieval historiography and chronography. He focuses particularly on these themes in the Iberian peninsula and with respect to Christian, Muslim, and Jewish relations in the high Middle Ages. Alex’s dissertation will examine medieval historical thought, composition, and theory through Latin, Arabic, and vernacular chronicles, polemics, and literary texts written in Iberia, France, and other regions in the 12th and 13th centuries and the transmission, evolution, and reception of historical thought in al-Andalus and the Latin West
