Professor Diagne teaches Philosophy and French at Columbia University. His most recent book, to date, is one of our readings for this seminar. Here, he "traces Muslims' intellectual and spiritual history off examining and questioning beliefs and arguments to show how Islamic philosophy has always engaged critically with texts and ideas both inside and outside its tradition. The French version of this book was first published in 2004 by Éditions Panama in Paris, and in 2013 by Philippe Rey / Jimsaan in Paris and Dakar. The English translation, published by Columbia University Press can be read online through the library. We will be focusing, above all, on chapter 5, “A lesson in Ecological Philosophy.”
