The fifth session of Iberian Con­nec­tions fea­tures Alberto Mon­taner Frutos, a Pro­fessor at the Uni­versity of Zaragoza, Spain, and one of the foremost spe­cialists in the field. He has sug­gested an article in English, com­bined with another one in Spanish, plus a series of readings to prepare for the dis­cussion on this important subject. He will be addressing lit­erary texts, but also Arabic, Greek, and Latin tra­di­tions that are instru­mental to interpret the role of magic in the Early Modern period, and in par­ticular in Siglo de Oro lit­er­ature.

Esteban Crespo Jaramillo, graduate student at the Department of Spanish and Por­tuguese and Renais­sance Studies at Yale, will be mod­er­ating the session and serving as respondent.
