Nicole von Germeten

Nicole von Germeten received her PhD in history from the University of California at Berkeley. She also has degrees from Boston University, the University of California, Santa Barbara and the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her research has taken her to over thirty historic archives in Colombia, Spain, and Mexico, resulting in publications relating to the history of the African Diaspora, sexuality, and religion. She held a post-doctoral fellowship at Princeton University’s Center for the Study of Religion and was a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Center for Latin American Studies. An administrator and a professor of history at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Dr. von Germeten recently finished a new book manuscript for the University of Nebraska Press, with the working title: "The Enlightened Patrolman: Early Law Enforcement in Mexico City." Her next project will go more deeply into murder and its motivations in the final decades of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
